Privacy policy
This policy covers the Hushbar Chrome extension ("Hushbar – Media Remote for Google Meet™") and this website.
Summary
- Hushbar does not collect, sell or share any personal data.
- It has no analytics, no tracking, no accounts and no server.
- It does not load or run remote code.
- Your settings are stored only on your device.
What Hushbar reads
To control media in your tabs, Hushbar looks for <video> and <audio> elements on the pages you have open. For each player it reads only:
- whether it is playing or paused,
- the playback position, duration, volume, mute state and speed,
- the title of the tab it is in.
It also uses the tab's icon (favicon) and the current site's hostname, so it can show where media is playing and offer the per-site on/off switch.
On Google Meet, if auto-pause on unmute is turned on, Hushbar reads the state of your microphone button on the page (muted or unmuted). It does not access your microphone, camera, audio or video, and it does not read the call's chat, captions or participant list.
Hushbar does not read page text, form fields, passwords, browsing history or cookies. This information stays inside your browser and is used only at that moment to show and control playback.
What Hushbar stores
Hushbar saves your preferences, such as which features are on, the widget's position, size and layout, and the sites where the widget is turned on. They are saved with Chrome's chrome.storage API on your device.
While Chrome is open, Hushbar also keeps a short-lived list of the tabs that are playing, which one you selected, and which ones it paused for you, so the remote works across tabs. This list is kept in Chrome's session storage and is cleared when you close the browser. Hushbar keeps no history of what you played.
To delete this data, remove the extension from Chrome.
What Hushbar transmits
Nothing. Hushbar makes no network requests of its own and sends no data to the developer or to any third party.
The only network activity related to Hushbar is your browser loading tab favicons as images so they can appear in the widget. These are the same icons Chrome already shows in your tab strip, loaded from the sites you have open.
Permissions, and why they are needed
Read and change all your data on websites
Media can play on any site, so Hushbar needs access to every site to find the video or audio player on each tab and send it commands such as play, pause, seek and volume. It reads only the media state and tab title listed above. It also uses this access to show the widget on the sites you choose, or on every site if you turn that on.
Tabs
Used to send each command to the right tab, to show tab favicons, to switch to a playing tab when you ask, and to know the current site's hostname for the per-site on/off switch.
Storage
Used to save your preferences on your device.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or third-party scripts. The hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and request times, for security and operation.
Children
Hushbar is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a future version of Hushbar ever needs to handle data differently, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
